AWS Returns on April 20, 2022!

It’s true! We have been on a pause it seems like forever, because - well, you know, COVID! But now we can say plans are firming up for the return of Amputee Walking School.

We are still working on registration, but you need to save the date! Todd and Dennis have booked their flights and we want you to mark your calendar to plan to attend.

AWS COVID PAUSE 'til Spring

We are very disappointed to announce that due to the resurgence of COVID-19, we are going to have to cancel plans for the Amputee Walking School in September 2021.

We had hoped to be able to schedule this event for the first time in what seems like forever, but with the quickly emerging changes in COVID, our plans have to be put on hold again. Keeping everyone’s health and safety in mind, we will have to hope for a better environment come spring.

AWS Returning September 8, 2021

Good news!

Amputee Walking School is returning in September 2021. Plans are underway to develop the day’s program now. As soon as we have more details we will post it here! But save the sate for September 8, 2021.

It has been some time since we could cohost a session of Walking School. In fact, November 2019 was the last date. Since then, COVID restrictions did not allow us to meet - until now! Things are changing and we are looking at the options to make the re-launch of Amputee Walking School something you will not want to miss!

Stay tuned!

We hope to meet in 2021!

Normally we would have a schedule for the next year by now, but so many things are still up in the air. We don’t know when the first Amputee Walking School session will be in 2021. The safety of patients and staff is always our top priority, especially with the additional challenge of COVID, so we will be guided by the policies of the State of Maryland, and co-hosts University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute - UM Rehab.

We wish you Happy Holidays, and hope that 2021 will bring safe times and allow us to co-host Amputee Walking School again. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces again!

September 2020 AWS Cancelled!

Todd (L) and Dennis (R).

We are sorry to say that the September 16, 2020 AWS date is cancelled. And it is very likely that the November 2020 date will be cancelled as well. This is to comply with CDC guidelines as regards COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

You can still participate in the Amputee Walking School 2020 Steps Challenge even while you are “social distancing”! Amputee Walking School founders Todd and Dennis have just posted the information and want you to get involved! They talk about this activity as part of the Amputee Walking School program, and have set up a little state-to-state friendly competition to motivate people. You can check it out by clicking here!

We will look forward to having them back with us (and co-hosts University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute - UM Rehab) as soon as we can. In the meantime, stay safe and healthy, and watch your steps!

If you are not familiar with Amputee Walking School and the founders (Todd Schaffhauser and Dennis Oehler), we invite you to check out a great, really informative video, so click here. Todd and Dennis know how to engage and encourage amputees to get moving!
