Welcome, Amanda! Welcome Back, Sheryl!

Our staff has grown in the last two months! A new team member has joined our Eastern Shore office in Patient Services, and a former team member practitioner has returned.

Welcome to Easton, Amanda Herbert! And welcome back to the Baltimore Washington office, Sheryl Sachs, CPO!

Born and raised on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Amanda Herbert received her high school diploma and Cosmetology License back in 2016. After graduating, she had various jobs in the customer service field. These positions gave her an opportunity to learn and improve her customer care skills. She has learned the art of communication in dealing with clients in a varied array of circumstances and is ready to assist our clients in any way she can. She has always loved being able to help people and finds it very rewarding to see clients happy. In her free time, she enjoys game nights with the family, watching movies and spending time with her pets, a dog named Bella and a cat named Indi. She is eager and very excited to be a part of the Dankmeyer team!

Sheryl Sachs is a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist, who has returned to Dankmeyer after a short move to New Jersey. She has been with Dankmeyer since 2011. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she received a BS in Kinesiology and a BA in Communications from the University of Maryland, College Park. While she was there, she was interested in sports broadcasting, worked as a student athletic trainer, and initially thought she might to pursue a post-graduate degree in physical therapy. Then, she had the opportunity to volunteer at Walter Reed in the Prosthetics Lab and found she loved working with the devices and the patients. She attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where she received her Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics and completed her residencies at Dankmeyer. Sheryl is very active in the O&P field outside of our office. She serves on the executive committee of the NCOPE board, a professional organization that focuses on overseeing the education of new students entering O&P. She is also active with the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) as a volunteer on their government affairs committee and is passionate about advocacy efforts to help improve patients’ access to care. She is a former marathoner, and in her free time, she enjoys watching sports and spending time with her husband and two children.

We are so happy to have Amanda join our team, and very excited to have Sheryl rejoin us! Say hello when you see them, and Welcome!

HAPPY 68th BIRTHDAY DANKMEYER!

2022 marks 68 years of service to all the communities we serve!

Dankmeyer Inc. was founded in 1954 by Charles “Herb” Dankmeyer, himself a bilateral below the knee amputee. Founded on the principle of being sensitive to the needs of the community and providing services to meet those needs, Dankmeyer has four locations throughout Maryland to provide prostheses and orthoses to patients in the Mid Atlantic.

The practice developed and has maintained an excellent reputation throughout the community and has relationships with all of the medical teaching institutions in the area as well as most of the private hospitals and insurers. We consider the practice to be driven by the needs of the patients we serve.

EDUCATION

We have been Maryland’s pioneers and leaders in education. The professional, technical, and administrative staff all participate in ongoing educational programs both as participants and presenters. We create and host monthly virtual professional education programs through Dankmeyer Academy. Positions in our Residency Program are highly sought after, and we host internships on a regular basis.

INNOVATION

We were the first in Maryland to produce plastic prostheses, endoskeletal prostheses, electronic prostheses, and plastic molded orthoses for spine, lower limb and upper limb. Our 3D Printing team constantly pushes the boundaries of what this innovative new technology can do for our patients.

RESEARCH

We participate in both local and national clinical research programs. These efforts combined with the needs presented to us in our communities have led us to the development of several unique prostheses and orthoses including the APL/Dankmeyer powered upper limb prosthesis. Our clinical processes analysis have lead to development of digital applications used by clinical partners.

HIGH TECH

  • Our 3D Printing and high tech specialist team occupies space in our 15,000 square foot modern state-of-the-art facility.

  • We use microprocessor components for appropriate prosthetic patients.

  • We are part of a collaborative team with Maryland based Infinite Biomedical Technologies for cutting edge upper extremity prosthetic components.

  • We are at the forefront of working alongside our pioneering referral sources to incorporate osseointegration for appropriate prosthetic patients.

  • We have one of only a dozen highly trained specialists in the United States to fit the non traditional Wood Cheneau Rigo scoliosis brace.

  • Our full service laboratory continues to provide all of our fabrication needs.

ADVOCACY

Members of our team belong to several national advocacy groups to educate our lawmakers and patients on the needs of our communities. (Visit our ADVOCACY page here.) We co-host the very popular Amputee Walking School events locally. We are one of the founders of the Amputee Association of Maryland, a non-profit support group.

ACCREDITATION

All of our locations are accredited with the American Board of Certification (ABC) and we have 10 ABC Certified practitioners on our staff.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

Our staff members belong to various industry organizations. These include the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP), the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE), and the Orthotic and Prosthetic Activities Foundation (OPAF).

Congratulations, Daniel Weiser, Certified Orthotist!

We are very excited to share that Danny Weiser, having completed his orthotics board exams, is a newly minted Certified Orthotist! Danny joined us in 2020 to do his prosthetics and orthotics residency for eighteen months. Before coming to Dankmeyer, he did his undergraduate work at Towson University, followed by his master’s at Northwestern University. Once the residency period is over, the board eligible individual prepares for the rigorous exams to receive certification by the American Board of Certification. There are a lot of years of education behind that certification and quite a bit of practice and study.

Danny has stayed on at Dankmeyer to complete his certifications, and spends his time primarily in our Baltimore Washington (Linthicum) office. In addition to his orthotics and prosthetics work, Danny also spends time outside the office as a magician and professional photographer. We appreciate his photography skills, which he applies to many Dankmeyer subjects. A number of our videos are also produced and edited by Danny.

Congratulations, Danny and thank you for your hard work and dedication!
